Elements of Design

Shape
The designer of this one took the shape of the melting clock and made a physical replica of it. It grabs your attention since it is out of the norm.
Space
This designer effectively used the negative space to hold it all together and highlight the important parts.
Line
This entire globe is using line as a design element. Not just to line out the countries and states, but rivers, flight patterns, etc.
Symmetry
This design is using symmetry to and minimal colors to create a sleek and classic look.
Typography
I love the typography of the back of the this old photo. It is very elaborate as well as royal looking.
Texture
The fabric texture adds depth and richness to this table cloth. If it was plastic, it would have a completely different feel to it.
This DVD cover doesn’t look like there was a plan at all and likely there wasn’t. The bullet list should be removed. It is better suited for the back and is repeated on the back cover. The focal point is just the head of a fish. I would have picked a picture that was more obviously fly fishing like a man in is waders casting.
The design isn’t necessarily bad, it’s just out of date. But I’d say the part I dislike the most is the beige shape in the background. It also needs a better color scheme.

Noir Valentines

For this assignment I chose one of my favorite b&w movies “Roman Holiday” and paired it with a quote that made it more of a sad/breakup kind of valentine. I actually just used Paint 3D for this. I was unable to get the “g” of “goodbye” to show up completely, but liked the font, so I stuck with it.

Vintage-Ify A Place

This assignment I found to be the most fun. I love trying to recreate things of the past. For this one I used Illustrator and did a trace image and chose 16 colors for it. For the castle logo, I cropped it from the Bran castle official website and added a circle around it. It was also fun testing out the different fonts to best suit the assignment.

Week 5 Summary(Audio)

This week was on audio and it was better than I thought it was going to be. I’ve never really made anything on audio software before so this was out of my comfort zone. But it surprised me how fun it ended up being to create little sound clips.

Quote with a New Feeling

For this assignment I chose to do the recording of a quote then add background music to it.

“Do not let the past disturb you, just leave everything in the Sacred Heart and begin again with joy.” – Mother Teresa

Radio Show Ideas

-Interact live with the live-tweets do Q&A 80’s themed (What character would you play in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? etc).

80’s Trivia. If it’s trivia over songs, we could play the correct answer(song) after the question is over.

-We could do a drama set in the 80’s. Maybe the reenactment of a diary entry. Could include what was popular or in the news around that date.

-Live taste testing of popular 80’s candy/soda.

Play the top 5 or more songs of today’s date from a random year in the 80’s.

Could also do a todays date thing with blockbusters in theaters or news headlines.

Listening

As I am listening to “The Lady Vanishes,” I notice how the music is not constant and that it changes from section to section. I think they do this to help keep this story from sounding static and stale. It helps set the mood and creates interest. It also helps to keep interest when they interject “crowd” sounds into the story.

“Don’t hate the Player” also included sound clips from the actual episode which helps to transport you to that event through audio. They also included interviews which deepens the story. The narrator describes what is happening(facial expressions, etc.) while the sound clip from the episode is playing in the background. The interview also was talking about how the she was unable to stop the show because the contestant wasn’t breaking any rules while the audio clip of him winning was playing. This podcast did a very good job of audio storytelling.

A Sound Effects Story

For this assignment I used freesounds.org to supply the sound effects for my story. It was fun mixing two or more sounds to play at the same time to help create the story better and less choppy. Also using fade out was very helpful.
